Another new design. I had no idea I would enjoy designing corn dollies, but I do. The "Eye of the Owl" uses Dala wheat, which I harvested with scissors and, once I visited the hardware store, a Japanese sickle. Dala wheat comes from the Dalarna region in Sweden. Being a relatively ancient variety, there is a lot of diversity in the color and length of the stalks and in whether the seedheads have awns (beards) or not. Barn Owl Bakery uses the wheat because, as they say, it "has a mild and alluring flavor." Yay!
