Last spring my balcony and porch detached from the house. It wasn't a big surprise, not really. It did require immediate attention, though. I was not too thrilled about the expense, but the carpenter said that he was willing to do some of the work in trade.
I took one of the scraps of lumber from the old porch and have been working on it. I didn't use gesso so it felt a bit like doing watercolor, as the paint sucked right into the wood. You can see a couple of blemishes in the wood that I incorporated, more or less, into the scene. If he doesn't like this one, there are plenty more scraps of wood to play with.
